Active Lifestyle

Encouraging a healthy lifestyle is important to parents of Korematsu Elementary. We participate in the city-wide program Active4.me, and sponsor two running programs – Girls On The Run and Running Club.

Active4.me

About The Program – The Korematsu PTO is participating in the Active4Me program, which encourages kids to bike, walk, and scooter to get to school. Children that choose to participate will be issued a small plastic card with a barcode on it. When students get to school by means other than a car, they can get scanned in at the bike racks on campus. Once checked in, the child’s traveled distance will be added to their records and their total-to-date will be read to them. This gives them a wonderful sense of accomplishment as their distance adds up! To encourage kids to bike/walk/scooter to school, the program rewards students with “Coyote Cash” (fake money) that can be used to purchase prizes once a month.

Once children have checked in, a text message or email can be sent automatically, letting parents know their child’s tag was scanned into the system. However, these messages are not a guaranteed check-in system and must not be used to ensure a child has reached school. If the system or network is ever down (or your child is late or forgets to check in), calls to the office to check on a child’s safe arrival will result in cancellation of our ability to run the service, as the school staff cannot accommodate any “Did my child reach school?” phone calls. This service is being offered for free at this time through a grant from the City of Davis, and we thank them greatly for their support in helping us and the world Go Green!

Bike Rodeo Event May 15th, 2024

The City of Davis Police are hosting a bike rodeo at our school as part of our school’s bicycle skills program. They will be conducting a Bike Rodeo on May 15th after school at 1:34pm with the the help of volunteers (sign-up here to help). The bike rodeo is a simple and fun activity to teach your child important bicycle safety skills. The event consists of a number of stations that allow your child to learn and practice proper bicycling skills. In order for your child to participate, the following is required:

  • You must review, sign, and return the release by May 15th.
  • Children must bring their own bike, wear a bicycle helmet and shoes that fasten, no flip-flops allowed.

Scanning Volunteers Needed!

This program is only possible if we get enough volunteers to help us scan tags every day. All of the equipment is provided and is easy to use. Volunteers need to commit to being at a table once a week, or even every-other-week, for about 30 minutes before school begins. If you are willing to be on our super scanning staff, please email active-coordinator@korematsupto.org.

Sign Me Up! – If you would like your student to participate in this program, please follow the instructions below:

1. Register each student on the https://www.active4.me/Registration/korematsu site and print out and sign the the final form/page

2. Bring your form to the front office/PTO office any weekday morning to get your tag

3. Attach the barcode tag to something that comes to school every day (eg, a backpack). Do NOT attach tags to a bike, scooter, etc or helmet
